Forbidden City Collection | Imperial Rug
Inspiration
Layered Scrolling Vines Unfold from the Outer Edge to the Centre
Three ornamental borders frame the rug. The outermost is a plain navy band. The middle border has a ginger yellow ground woven with scrolling peonies. Peonies in full bloom, intertwined with scrolling vines, symbolise enduring prosperity.
The inner border is set against a lake-blue ground adorned with scrolling lotus motifs, symbolising enduring auspiciousness.
The central field is set against a soft yellow ground, centred on a prominent Baoxiang flower. At its centre is a stylised lotus viewed from above, surrounded by layers of scrolling foliage and peonies. The dense floral composition creates a sense of balance and harmony.
Blossoms and Butterflies Weave Through Graceful Lotus Patterns
Butterfly and floral motifs surround the rounded Baoxiang flower, infusing the composition with rhythm and vitality.
The four corners of the central field are filled with sweeping scrolling peony vines. The curving branches create a balanced, symmetrical composition with a strong sense of completeness.
Square forms enclose circular motifs throughout the rug, creating a harmonious interplay between geometry and organic forms. The motifs extend evenly in all four directions without a fixed orientation, allowing the rug to be placed freely within a variety of interior settings.
