Beauty Lies in Difference, Expressed Through Fluid Forms
Legendary Italian artist Gaetano Pesce collaborated with CHANGPHEL to create the handwoven art rug Diversity is Beautiful.
Gentle colour gradients flow across the surface, while distinctive human profiles come together to shape the rug’s irregular perimeter. Within each silhouette, a black line suggests an eye, evoking the image of birds in flight with their wings spread wide. No two forms are identical; each possesses its own character and expression.
The irregular contours and seamless transitions of colour give Pesce’s Diversity is Beautiful its distinctive visual appeal.
Beauty in Irregularity, Expressed Through Colour
Created in collaboration with CHANGPHEL, this art rug marks Gaetano Pesce’s first venture into handwoven rug making. It represents a new expression of his long-standing design principle of embracing variety and rejecting repetition.
To recreate Pesce’s signature interplay of bold colours, artisans at CHANGPHEL Workshop & Manufactory developed dozens of custom tones through repeated dyeing. Intricate handweaving and carefully selected yarns create organic transitions and subtle blends across the surface.
Pesce’s creative vision comes to life through the continuous movement and variation of the rug’s colour palette.
Through this work, we celebrate the material, the craft, and the spontaneous beauty of colour — while leaving space for every viewer to encounter the work in their own way, shaped by individual moods, reflections and emotions.
