Inspiration
Cranes Symbolise Longevity, Soaring Freely Through the Ages
This rectangular rug features a double-border composition. The outermost border is a plain brown band, while the inner border sits on a cream ground adorned with a continuous band of scrolling lotus. Full lotus blossoms unfold along graceful, winding vines.
The central field is set against a deep navy ground, with four round crane medallions alternating with five floral roundels. The remaining space is densely filled with scrolling lotus motifs.
Cream lines trace vines and flower heads, while lake blue outlines leaves and calyxes. The blossoms are full, the lotus leaves broad and supple, while the twisting branches lend the composition an elegant sense of movement.
Each roundel is outlined with double cream lines and filled with encircling lotus motifs, symbolising continuity and wholeness.
Each crane medallion depicts two red-crowned cranes flying toward one another with outstretched wings, their plumage rendered in exquisite detail.
Huainanzi, in the chapter Shuo Lin, records a traditional saying that cranes live a thousand years, wandering freely to the full extent of their lives. In traditional Chinese culture, cranes have long been regarded as auspicious birds associated with longevity.

Distinctive ornamentation, blossoms in full bloom
Crafted from premium materials, the rug features cotton warp and weft with hand-knotted wool pile and a pronounced pile height. Naturally dyed with plant pigments, the colours possess a pure, harmonious quality and lend a gentle lustre to the surface.
It employs deep navy, pale blue, cream and brown. Warm and cool tones are balanced through subtle two-tone gradients, keeping the motifs crisp and fluid while harmonising understated elegance with vivid vitality.
Elaborate yet orderly, the ornamental composition is enriched by abundant floral motifs in full bloom.
The layered flower-within-flower design of the round medallions echoes the opulent splendour of Tang Dynasty baoxiang flowers, lending the rug a distinctly regal presence.
