Artist Collection
GAEL EPINEY
Most of the Tibetan rug designs in this collection are adapted from Gael Epiney’s coloured-pencil sketches.
Winding rivers and layered mountain ridges take shape beneath his pencil. Intense colours intertwine with contrasts of light and shadow, subtly echoing the palette of traditional Tibetan aesthetics.

Inspiration
Among Mountains, Along Flowing Rivers
Painter Gael Epiney was born and raised in Switzerland, where the Alps first shaped his relationship with the landscape.
He later continued his studies in Lhasa, Xizang, creating amidst the vast presence of the Himalayas.
Gael and CHANGPHEL share a deep appreciation for the land and a sense of gratitude for all that it gives.
Through this collaboration, CHANGPHEL and Gael Epiney translate his reverence and affection for the mountains into the language of Tibetan rugs.
This collection stands as our mutual tribute to the sacredness we hold deep within.

Layered Peaks, Undulating Textures
For Gael, nature is an inexhaustible source of inspiration and a place of quiet refuge.
When translated into woven Tibetan rugs, his drawings take on a new material presence, sometimes producing results that surprise even the artist himself.
Hand-dyed wool yarn naturally varies in tone, even within a single solid colour.
Precisely arranged short-pile wool, combined with subtly irregular trimming, recreates the rugged, undulating textures of mountain rock.
The result is more than a rug: a small landscape brought into three dimensions, where rivers, peaks, light and shadow unfold gradually beneath the eye.
