Inspiration
Winding Serpent, Eternity within Impermanence
The collection draws inspiration from the ancient symbol of the Ouroboros, representing the eternal cycle of creation and dissolution, and the universal order of unity within opposites.
From ancient Egypt, where it was associated with the eternal sun, to Greek philosophy, where it came to embody the cyclical nature of the cosmos, and Tibetan thought, with its understanding of impermanence and samsara, the symbol has carried enduring reflections on the nature of existence.
In Tibetan Buddhist thought, existence is understood as a continuous cycle rather than a definitive beginning or end. Each transition marks the emergence of another form of being.
Life is not a linear journey, but an ongoing practice of inner cultivation. Through reflection and mindful practice, one gradually moves toward a sense of wholeness.
Gemstones & Winding Serpents
The artwork centres on two intertwined serpents. Traditional Tibetan geometric motifs and gemstone-inspired details trace their bodies, symbolising the cycle of life and spiritual transformation.
The swirling composition echoes the Endless Knot, one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism, representing continuity, interconnection, and enduring auspiciousness.
Sculpted weaving techniques create dimensional depth and movement across the serpent forms, making them appear to glide across the rug with a vivid, almost living presence.
Highland wool knot motifs encircle the rug’s perimeter, evoking a sense of protection.
Blending ancient Tibetan symbolism with a contemporary decorative language, the design invites us to embrace transformation, find strength amid change, and move toward inner wholeness.
