Research suggests that the patterns on this Tibetan rug were created by Tibetan weavers under the influence of silk-weaving craftsmanship from the Central Plains.
This cultural exchange dates back to the early Tang Dynasty or even earlier. During that era, large quantities of silk from the Central Plains reached the Tibetan Plateau, influencing generations of Tibetan rug artisans.
